With the project »Vistaar«, the Zafraan Ensemble dedicates itself to North Indian Hindustani music from different perspectives in a double concert. The musicians of the Berlin Zafraan Ensemble enter into an exchange with the renowned Indian virtuosos Aneesh Pradhan (Tabla) and Bahauddin Dagar (Rudra Vina) as well as the composers Stefan Keller and Uday Krishnakumar.

Stefan Keller has been intensively involved with the tabla for many years and took lessons with Aneesh Pradhan himself. During many trips to India as well as in the context of his dissertation at the FU Berlin, he has studied the complex compositional and variation techniques of North Indian tabla music and its playing techniques. He focuses on the rhythmic virtuosity of tabla playing in interaction with the ensemble and a fundamental perception of physicality.
Uday Krishnakumar studied the Rudra Vina with Ustad Bahauddin Dagar in Mumbai. He is particularly interested in the blend of timbres of Western and Indian instruments, their cultural context, and the play of fictional traditions as well as performance practices.
