Empty space (留白) is a common technique in classical Chinese art, especially during the Song Dynasty. In music, »silence« is also a void technique used in contrast to sound, or »movement« in general, to better emphasize it. »negative space A« uses this as a literal template, alternating actively sounding and passively fading formal parts until a strong alternation between movement and silence is achieved, creating a new perception of the musical material.
