Chaya Czernowin: bones into wings

für großes Orchester mit sechs Stimmen

(2023/2024)

In this piece, the voices do not tell stories. They transmit sensorial events of naked emotions: voice as breath, as noise, as flight, a kind of butoh (Japanese dance theater) of the voice. An opera of sorts, the piece reaches deep into internal corners and landscapes of the self. The voice is situated within an orchestral pri- mordial forest, jungle, a vast wilderness of unstoppable and uncontrolled growth. There is life everywhere. The piece invites the listener to the vestiges of undiscov- ered connectivity between external and internal nature, which is at the same time deeply familiar and foreign, but above all synaesthetic.
