Ricardo Eizirik: Bodily Awareness as Identity (working title; 2026)

& echtzeitEnsemble + jointly developed concept/piece

»Eizirik Project« for a group of HMDK students:
Instruments, voices, composition, improvisation, movement, performance

»Bodily Awareness as Identity« is a workshop and concert format that brings together students from various disciplines to explore the body as a central locus of meaning in the performing arts and artistic creation. The project regards bodily awareness as an instrument of identity formation: for performers in terms of presence, charisma and interpretation; for artistic creation as a space to reflect on the handling of time and relationships. Through a brief theoretical introduction and practical exercises, students explore how physical presence shapes conceptual thinking, artistic meaning, temporal and spatial relationships, as well as practices of hearing and perception. And also how sound, space, scenography, movement and time influence the body (and our perception).

The course invites students to engage with critical thinking and to explore concepts of intersectionality and a postcolonial perspective, asking how bodies are perceived through historically and socially conditioned frameworks such as gender, ethnicity and cultural background. The exercises focus on posture, gesture, silence, movement and scenography, as well as the relationship between performers and audience. These explorations culminate in a collaboratively developed concert format that functions as an expanded performance situation, bringing to the fore the physical presence, visibility and shared responsibility of performers, composers and audience in the creation of meaning.
