Noise Is a Queer Space (2025)
with Luxa M. Schüttler, Håkon Stene, Queers and Allies
Daniel Seitz, sound direction
Sébastien Vaillancourt, electronics and programming
Using numerous snare drums in the room, drummer Håkon Stene creates live, electronically controlled changing sound states: rhythmic fields and noise surfaces that overlap, synchronise or separate. Donated by queers and allies such as Jennifer Walshe, Stellan Veloce, Chaya Czernowin, Timothy McCormack, Neo Hülcker, Wojtek Blecharz, Kari Watson, Sara Glojnarić and many others, each snare sound comes from a different pop cultural context and stands for sonic diversity and the plurality of identities. In the fluidity of this variable playing environment, the boundaries between composition, installation and free play are deliberately undermined. The result is a kind of acoustic group selfie: queer, supportive, personal, hedonistic.
