For they seek to know what they are doing: Amidst the tensions of a rapidly changing global environment, shifting cultural structures, and contradictory societal paradigms, the composition workshop New Sounds of the Future emerged. It enabled young composers from autocratically ruled countries in Eastern Europe to engage in exchange with European musicians and, above all, to situate their work within the context of current aesthetic debates. In this way, a space for reflection, dialogue, and artistic exploration was created.

The young artists almost all come from Lithuania’s neighboring country, and are still too young and too hopeful for exile. It is therefore not only the works that are imaginative, but also the names of the composers themselves.

New Sounds of the Future was created in collaboration between

Musik der Jahrhunderte, the Goethe Institute Vilnius and the LENsemble Vilnius.
