The sun is the engine that drives life everywhere in the world, without exception, and provides guidance in a wonderful way. All people know that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. And all living beings, without exception, experience this natural as well as existential cycle of day and night. To mirror this cycle, humans have mirrored this rhythm through the practice of walking in circles, as a reflection of the trajectories of celestial bodies.

I have experienced the breath as part of an effortless and unintentional cycle. Therefore, the relationship between the body and the position of cosmological elements such as the sunrise is central to my artistic practice.

Dhrupad singer, composer and dancer Amelia Cuni once told me, »Find a (chanting) practice that becomes part of your daily life because your practice is your life.« In this sense, I use my voice like an instrument that allows me to explore different environments intuitively, physically and acoustically by focusing on the resonance(s) of space and body(s).

Janneke van der Putten developed her performance for the festival »Der Sommer in Stuttgart« over the past year and a half in dialogue with the Peruvian composer and artist Christian Galarreta, including the tuning to the spatial situation of the performance venue P1 at the Theaterhaus Stuttgart.
