A competition for the best recipe for duck with salt and a clearly expressed ‘no’ that gradually dissolves into music: the legendary works by Lucia Ronchetti and Carola Bauckholt were the first to be premiered by the Neue Vocalsolisten as a chamber formation in May 2000. And the two masters of vocal composition demonstrate how the comedy and tragedy of human existence can emerge from madrigal-like polyphony. Jennifer Walshe was one of the first to understand physical gestures as a compositional element. With her interdisciplinary conceptual performances, in which she often takes up and satirises human or social behaviour patterns, she is a role model for an entire generation of composers. Luca Francesconi, for his part, takes up a role model in his work: ‘Herzstück’ is ‘his’ A-Ronne.
